A.I.D.A

Game Inspiration: AI


Level Duration: 30 minutes

Learning Objectives:
This was created during my second year of university because it was one of my assignments to
create a sci-fi game. This was a team project and as a team we decided to add elements of AI into
the game.
The name for this game A.I.D.A is an acronym for Artificial Intelligence Data Analysis. For anyone
who has gone through my portfolio and seen that I also have a page called Project Aida, both games
are separate to each other and in no way link. Also notice that I will normally name any male main
character as Ethan Williams, but I just like the name and the games do not link together.
Although a team project, I had never personally created a sci-fi game and/or a game that had the
storyline of being in space. This project allowed me to develop my creativity and ability to create for
a game that I have never created before.

Narrative:
The player takes on the role of an engineer named Ethan Williams. He is on the spaceship “USSOC
Ananke”. Its only purpose - to research and discover ancient technology and artifacts. Playing as
Ethan Williams, you explore a region where you discover a clue for another location somewhere in a
different region.
The journey begins as he discovers an unknown and mysterious satellite, orbiting around the planet.
The rest of the crew is assigned to explore and gather information about the satellite known as
“Black knight”. While the crew and the main character is exploring the satellite, their radios stop
working, and weird, unexplainable things are beginning to happen on the ship. It is in Ethan’s hands
to find out what is going on

Research:
Between 2018 – 2019, there was a rise in media reports on AI talking about the possibilities of AI –
how it can threaten and change jobs, security, privacy and reduce human creativity. Huge public
figures such as Elon Musk (Owner of Tesla and Space X), explored AI in his own projects and stated
that AI could lack accountability, fairness, biased or wrong predications, and lack of transparency
that could harm people.
Our main pieces of inspiration focused on conversations of Chatgtp and programs that was
generating misinformation, images and deepfakes. Maintaining the focus on the negative side of
these programs, we found that articles and reports were talking about how these programs could
de-stabilise society and undermine collective decision making.

It was a team project and so the tasks were shared out. My main role within this project was to
create the level design and level layout. I was the environmental artist and the writer for the
storyline of this game.

Design:
As you can see, we set A.I.D.A in a sci-fi and adventure setting with planets, space, and portal
systems. We wanted the player to be able to interact with objects and explore various detailed
environments.
