Studio Logo Design Final Outcome

I created my studio logo design during university as we were assigned to create our brand/ identity so we could start to publish our own work. The three smaller images below show you some of the other design ideas I had however I chose the skull design due to its meaning. The skull universally represents death and decay - a life passed - we can not help but look upon the skull and not retain a sense of our own existence and our place in the world. Of course the skull can be represented and seen more positively such as through the day of the dead. From an art and design perspective, skulls have been used to represent secret knowledge and/or truth. I created the strands on the skull to refer to something thin, like a wire or fiber that, together with other strands, form a rope like structure to hold things together.

The strands on the skull also refers to something thin, like a wire or a fiber that together with other strands form a rope or something else that's designed to hold things together. This meaning is used to refer to the strands that hold people together; the strands/ connections we'll form with other people.

My studio is called 1408 studios. My inspiration came from Stephen King's short novel and film, 1408. Both the novel and the film explored themes of belief and superstition, the fear of the unknown and idealism vs. cynicism. These themes resonate in everyday life and potentially what an individual deals with internally. Naming your brand/identity is important as you want to reach your target audience as well as align with your on vision, values and mission.

Also a fun fact about my name 1408 studios, the numbers added together equal to 13. 13 in biblical terms represent rebellion and apostasy as well as a symbol of hope and redemption. For the overall design of my logo, I wanted it to have a meaning of finding a sense of existence and place and building connections.

Lost Media PT2 Design Poster

The above design is one of the posters I created for my unreleased game Lost Media PT2. The design of the poster was edited and created in Adobe photoshop to enhance the image and place the lettering. I based this poster from an old work project looking at typography placement - see projects below,100 years of Swiss type and distortion outcomes. Typography is the art of creating and arranging text to ensure content is readable and appealing through using elements like color, font, layout, line spacing, letter spacing (also known as tracking) and kerning (customized space between individual characters).

I designed the background of this poster from a scene in the Lost Media series I am creating. This scene is particularly from Lost Media PT2 and the storyline continues. Here is a blurb about my game: You play as a rookie police officer who arrives at an apartment complex in the slums, America, after receiving a distressing 911 call. Unknowingly, this apartment complex houses the horrific past of a cult and as you discover more about this cult, the past unravels into the present.

Who Is Lying

I created this poster for another game I have created called Who is Lying. I edited and created this poster using photoshop to enhance the image and place the lettering to achieve this final design outcome. I used the same typography skills in this poster design as I did in designing the poster for Lost Media PT2 to ensure that the poster was visually appealing, easy to read and targeted the audience I wanted. I used canvas tools as well as Adobe Photoshop to create the design of the figure. I wanted this figure to represent the mystery of who the identity is and how their actions unknowingly lead the gameplay.

The narrative of this game project is a first-person perspective as a college student in America. You reveal other students’ secrets and unravel the truth behind a student’s death. Everyone posts on social media, and everyone must have a following to be considered worth talking to at this college. However, not everyone realizes the true impact social media can have on someone so when you find out a student has died and comments on their social media account are hurtful, you want everyone to know who was responsible. This game addresses issues of violence, entitlement, sexual orientation, and social status through the negative impact social media can have on an individual.

College Graphic design work Final Outcomes

Little White Lies  - Shutter Island
Final Outcome

I designed this Little White Lies, Shutter Island movie poster during a college assignment. In the brief I had to create and design different forms and narrative images to understand how graphic images can be used to communicate a message or story. I had to use either traditional or digital media techniques to create my illustrations and create this final poster.

I chose to create a movie poster for Shutter Island because of the rich, psychological storyline. The movie depicts the struggles and possible recovery of a person suffering from severe mental illness. The colors used in this poster is a great representation of the movie and I wanted the poster to be simplistic by only highlighting the main character and the location of where the movie was set.

100 Years Of Swiss Graphic Design

100 years of Swiss Graphic Design is a narrative project from a brief set in college. In the brief, I had to create and design different forms and narrative images that requires knowing how graphic images are used to communicate message or to tell a story. I had to research a range of graphic illustrations and review the process and techniques used to communicate the message. I chose this outcome because the colors represent the flag of Switzerland and the culture of the country. This gives meaning and representation to the design outcome. I really enjoyed creating this poster and chose it as one of my final major projects.

These are my wide range of my Distortion posters. Created for my final major project at college, the project was about understanding typography - the importance of type and letterforms and how they communicate a message to a specific audience. My Distortion project outcomes are an experimentation with the word distortion and how we can design an idea around the word. With my ideas, I experimented with the different placement of the words by using Adobe Photoshop by manipulating the placement and adding shadow and texture. Looking at the final outcomes with color, I used a photocopier as inspiration as I wondered, what if I moved the object while its being scanned. The outcome represents the meaning of the word distortion through the style and colors stretching, glitching and the letters overlapping each other. These outcomes were very effective towards the project of typography and how they communicate a message through the use of the design.

Distorted Outcomes

Heroes - Book Cover and Design Final Outcomes

These are my wide range of Heroes Book cover designs and final outcomes. I created these during college as part of my final major project. The brief was about understanding the importance of using type and letterforms and how they communicate a message to a specific audience.

With my final outcome of my Book Design and Book Cover Design where i took the information, where from the use of researching and understanding the influence of my chosen artist to design an similarity to their style. Which I've chosen David Carson, the reason is because of i wanted to design an outcome similar in his style by the use of multiple different colors from the use of experimentations. With these final outcome designs and experimentations of my book cover designs i tried to replicate David's style of a grungy and gritty look by the use of Photography of military items and relevant objects from the book as to show representation from the story and the main character perspective. which the story Heroes deals with themes such as trust, betrayal, religion, and what it means to be a hero. The book tells the story of Francis Cassavant who returns home from fighting in the Second World War deeply disfigured with a Silver Star for courage and a plan to seek revenge against local hero Larry LaSalle, with whom he has a troubled history. which from the designs of my final major outcomes they show a representation of a battle scare main character, with the process of these designs they a mixture of using and experimentations with print ink, sketching, spray, stencil and Photoshop to manipulate the color, contrast, exposure and vibrance which adds more detail and depth into the final designs, which for me i love the final outcomes as the designs feel that they represent the brief of designing a book comer from our chosen book and the the presentations of the story of the books topic.

David Carson Inspired Magazine Covers Designs

These are my wide range of David Carson inspired magazine covers. These are from my typography project when I was at college. The project was about typography and the brief looked at understanding the importance of using type and letterforms, how they communicate a message to a specific audience, how beneficial typography can be if used effectively and the terminology and conventions used in the graphic design industry, in order to create our own outcomes. During this typography project, I had to discuss with my tutor the artist I was going to design and be inspired/ influenced by their style of their work. I chose David Carson because I like the layout of his work; how it includes distortions and mixes of "Vernacular" typefaces and fractured imagery, rendering them almost illegible. David also practices an incorrect use of spelling making them a unifier of the bizarre essentials of his covers, which i incorporate into my final design outcomes.

Alan Fletcher Inspired Design Outcomes

Also whilst at college, I created a range of Alan Fletcher typography projects. With a similar brief to my David Carson project above, I had to design outcomes that were similar to the style and approach of Alan Fletcher's work. My work is based on the use of typographic, grid-based precision of the Bauhaus, as well as the playful, organic stylings of Paul Rand which Alan implemented into a style of his own. This combination, paired with his wit, made him uniquely well-equipped to design for the Graphic design Industry.

Minimalist Movie Poster Designs

I created these minimalist move posters as part of a narrative project brief during college. The brief: to create and design different forms and narrative images to communicate a message or tell a story through either traditional or digital media techniques. Particularly for this assignment, less is more. Minimalist posters strip away unnecessary elements so only the essentials are left. By doing so, they focus on conveying the essence of a movie. The simplicity of minimalist design creates a powerful impact- bold shapes, limited color palettes, and well-chosen details, make these posters memorable and visually arresting. With my final design outcomes, I feel they represent a striking and captivating way of promoting a film through a minimalist design  involving bold colors and simple designs.

Multi Design Final outcome

This project was created during college and we had to create multiple, different types of mediums based and inspired by the Dada movement and Hattie Stewart in one final design. The background in my final design above was inspired by Hattie Stewart who is renowned for her technique called ‘doodle-bombs’. In this process, she playfully illustrates over magazine covers, transforming them into vibrant and eye-catching pieces of art. These doodle-bombed covers inject new life and humor into familiar images.

The design playfully illustrates over magazine covers, transforming them into vibrant and eye-catching pieces of art. Bright and Playful Iconography, as well as the dada inspiration which present intriguing design that overlaps and paradoxes in that which the design seek to remain cryptic enough to allow the viewer to interpret what the meaning of the design outcome represents.

London Zoo Lino Print and Lino Design Final Outcomes

Lino printing, a relief printmaking technique akin to woodblock printing and designs are carved into linoleum block, is something I was able to experiment with at college. The raised, uncarved areas are inked with a brayer and then pressed onto paper or fabric using a baren. Lino printing allows for the creation of multiple copies, or editions, of the artwork.

The brief was about Branding of London Zoo based on the trip we attended where we had to capture photography, sketches and come up with ideas on the final design.

This design was based from the trip we went to to London Zoo so we could get inspiration for this piece of work. My initial ideas was the silhouettes of the animals, keeping the design simple but effective and adding multiple silhouettes from various different animals to make the design effective and stand out.

The octopus Lino design was a design I've done around the time of the brief of the London zoo project where we had to design an animal any form of design and use of medium, The reason of my choice of the octopus was based on the design of the kraken drink and the mythology of the kraken  a legendary sea etymologically akin to a squid or octopus, of tremendous size.

Mexican Day of the Dead Lino Printing final outcomes

This is another Lino project I had to design and create during college. The brief was about individuality, to design a final outcome that represent ourselves. When discussing with the tutor on the ideas and theme of my design, they suggested to design my outcome in Lino as they felt i produced strong Lino designs and outcomes. when it came to my design it had to be something that represents myself. With some thought i came to designing a skull however i wanted to design something unique and wanted to incorporate some meaning and to the design to represent my self, with the design adjusting over some variation the design above is the final outcome i felt it represent the brief about individuality.

The skull i design based on the inspiration and research into Mexican day of the dead where its a annual festival was a chance for people to celebrate life, death and rebirth, and to commemorate and honor their ancestors who they believe returned to earth at the time to visit them. In the design the skull contains various meaning such as the birds and music notes. Which to me the birds symbolize freedom, love and peace, the music notes to express emotion or mood. overall with the design i felt with the brief about individuality i feel the design communicates a message about my self through the use of design medium.
